Question How to cut holes in brick wall for vents?

Hi there!

I will be installing a heat recovery ventilator on my home and need to know the best way to cut holes in the brick for the exterior vents.

Could brick be cut with a sawzall?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Holes in brick

Skid,

No a sawzall will not cut brick/block. Depending on the size of holes you need you can either drill & chisell (masonry bit 1/2 & up, hammer drill, brick hammer & cold chissels) or rent electric &/or gas saws that can be used for a variety of holes from round vent pipe size to remove driveway size. Most decent rent all shops carry most sizes due to their expence(even contractors rent them because your average addition can't justiffy the expence of purchasing).

I wish I could be more help than that but I normally tell the guy at the rent all what type of hole I need & he hooks me up

Thanks John

The holes I have to drill will be about 6" in diameter.

I have tried the chisel method in the past and found that it cracks the mortar of the other bricks around the hole from the impacts of the hammer.

I was hoping there would be an easier way.

Thanks again.
