Air Handler Tonnage?

Is there a minimum/recommended tonnage/sq foot rate for a residential user as it relates to the air handler? I'm thinking about putting on a variable-speed air handler onto a forced hot air/ a/c system? Square footage is about 4500 sq feet and want to use three zones. And should I get two air handlers since one of the zones is used infrequently? Thanks for the help.

heat load calc

is absolutely necessary. most contractors will do it with their bid. if not, find it online at hvactalk.com not knowing position, window area and type, insulation factors or figuring in temp degree days, we can only guess. many factors are involved in properly sizing a system. stay away from the guys who say "i did a house like this and put in XXXX"
