Compressor not shutting off

I have a Rheem Compressor unit that will not shut off when the inside unit quits running. It is freezing up on the outside. About 8 weeks ago we had to replace the inside blower unit. Could this have anything to do with it? The only way to make the outside unit quit running is to turn off the entire system at the thermostat.

if turning tstat to off kills outdoor unit, my guess is tstat is bad. power to energize contactor (switch in outdoor unit that energizes comp) comes from yellow at tstat, and generally goes directly outside, energized only by switch in cool and temp setting lower than room temp. have seen this many times

thanks, that was the problem... these digital thermostats are great however, when they go out there is no way to determine this.

Once again,
