Electronic Filter Cleaning

how do you clean a Lennox electronic air cleaner
I have a Lennox forced air furnace with a Lennox electronic air filter which doesn't appear to have been cleaned in ages.
What is the best way to clean the filters? There appear to be six in total, 2 large metal filters (~ 4 inches thick), 2 charcoal filters and 2 standard filters. The charcoal and standard filters appear to be really dirty.
Thanks for the help,

Hello: Sofus72. Welcome to the Heating & Cooling Forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
Compressed air will clean the metal finned filtering parts. Do not use any type of liquid cleaning solutions. If the charcoal section of the filter is deteriorated, replace it. Same for the 2 standard type filters.
Additional Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information. An excellent source for orginal replacement parts is your local retail appliance parts store. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
Several other resident heating professionals on this type of heating system, replying within this forum, could have additional helpful information, suggestions, advice.
Check back on your question several times for additional replies.
If you need further assistance, use the REPLY button to add any additional information or questions, etc. Using this method also moves the topic back up to the top of the list automatically.

Filters
LIKE TOM SAID READ THE BOOK ON THEM. dont know what year you have on the filters. Get new charcoal ones and also get new standard filters for it. Now the two 4" ones you have .You can just take them out and hose them down . Be sure that they are DRY before you put them back in.Lennox cut the 4" electronic filter down too two parts so they could fit in your dishwasher. This filter you have could have been made by Honeywell for Lennox .
Have had a lot of people say the electronic filter is not worth a dam after they have had them for a while.I then find out that they dont keep the 4" cells clean like they should. As soon as a little dirt get on the wires in there the electric part of the filter cant and dont work. For them to work good you have to clean them about every 4--5 weeks ED

my 2 cents
get rid of the electronic filter, have MANY stories where they do not work. i recommend a pleated filter to fit (have to measure case) but will find 4 or 5 inch thick filters to fit. mfrs are trion/airbear, skuttle. this is what is in my house.

I agree with HVAC4U... Take it out, and install an AprilAire system or something like it..
Go and look at the Aprilaire 5000 electrionc air cleaner.. It uses the Meda type filter and works with the Eletronic cleaning...
