Outside fan doesn't run when Heat is on?

It should shouldn't it? it is a Heat Pump..We just bought the house, and A/C works fine,as does the heater, just the fan doesn't come on when the heat is on..The fan works when A/C is on..

I am not sure of the make of the air handler or the outside unit to be honest..

Thanks
Steve

ok, need some help here!

outside unit making any noise during heat cycle? does tstat have emergency heat switch? can you tell how many wires are hooked to tstst and what terminals they go to? do you have gas? does the blower have a flue pipe (it may be pvc)? what is make/model of outdoor unit? these answers will tell the story.

no noise outside when heat is on

no emergency heat on stat..is the emergency heat the brown wire?if so it isn't hooked up at the T-stat,it is coiled around the rest of the wires.doesn't seem to have ever been hooked up

the wires at the T-stat are as follows
G -to green wire
Y -to yellow wire
C -to blue wire
O -to orange wire
B- has no wire to it
W -to white wire
RC-to red wire
RH -has jumper wire from RC-RH

No gas only electric

Where would the flue pipe be? is it the one the water drips from outside?

The make is a Carrier, not sure of model..

Thanks
Steve

When i jump those 4 wires i get a clicking out at the outside unit, sounds like the compressor is clicking? but still no fan blowing..
BUT when i put the front back on the T-stat and turned the heat on no click from outside..The T-stat is brand new,it did it with the old one earlier as well..
But like i said i do have heat coming out of the vents..

Thanks
Steve

ok, got it!

i will bet you are low on freon. low pressure switch keeping heat from running, allowing cooling. click you hear is reversing valve. call a tech. still have heat because strips are running

the A/C works great though.blows real cold"does that even matter?" And you mentioned strips, will that run the electric bill way up like emergency heat does? will it hurt to run the heater till i get someone out here to check it out?

Thanks
Steve

yes and yes

blows real cold does not rule out low freon. pressure and temp have a direct relationship. low pressure, low temp discharge air down to the point of evap coil freezing condensation. and yes, strip heat IS emergency heat, with the outdoor unit locked out. auxiliary heat is the same thing, only kicks in when setpoint is greater than 3 degrees higher than room temp, and when in defrost cycle. i got $5 on low freon, will email you a check if wrong!

Oh my!

Jump yellow, green, and red. Red to green turns on the fan. Red to yellow will turn on the compressor. Red to Orange will energize the reversing valve and put the unit in cooling.

Carrier rev valves energize in cooling not heat like rheem.

I'll double hvac4u to $10 and say it's the board.

my bad!

will email the $10, let me get your address! actually went out on a goodman 2 ton today, tech said it was the board, went by "real quick" to change and get a check, turned out low refrigerant, low pressure switch had it out, fixed leak, started up, went into vacuum, had to reclaim, clean piston, recharge, got mud on my new tennies, 2 hrs later i leave with no check, they "will mail it" and now i am out $10! oh well, if i was perfect i would be dead 2000 years now!
