Forced air furnace problem

Forced air furnace problem
I have an General Electric gas fired forced air furnace, (Ambassador Mark II, model#: BLD080F936B1). The system is controlled by a Honeywell Magicstat/32. When I try to trun on the heating, the pilot fire could be lit, but the furnace could not be on. The pilot fire usually was on for about 20 seconds, than shut. Than it lit again and shut again. it kept doing this "on and off" and making the clicking sounds, but the furnace was never able to burn. I jump the wires behind the thermostat according to the instruction manual, it did not help:-- Pilot was on, but the furnace did not burn. Can you tell me what the problem is? If the problem is on the gas valve, is it an easy fix or can I do it by myself? Appreciate your help!

It sounds like it would be best if you call a service company to check this out.
You need test equipment to check components and it would be simpler for a tech to do this.
Also, it is unsafe to make repairs to gas equipment if you are not familiar with proper repair procedures.
