registers for a drop ceiling?

registers for a drop ceiling?

im installing a drop ceiling in my basement. all of the duck work is there now.at the end of the boot the registers are nailed the bottom of the floor joists.if i drop my ceiling 3 inches for the new ceiling what is the right way to extend the boot or what ever you call them down to the new ceiling?.i look at home depo and without asking nobody i did not see any thing that look like i could use.

the easiest way would be to rip old boot off, put a wood support under straight pipe then add an new boot or old one if in good shape with a small extention piece to make up 3 "

if the old boot is a 90 degree, you will need a new 90 and a straight boot

We just pull the boot lose, and drop it and the pipe to it. Just hang them with smoke pipe wire so the boot would just stick through the new ceiling. Cut both sides of the boot and turn this out so it will be on top of the new ceiling. This way you have some thing for the register screws to hold on to ED
