Are electrostatic air filters a waste of money??

A few years back, I had the heat pump and furnace assembly replaced in my house. I bit on a "special" offer of an electrostatic air filter in the installation. I have been disappointed in the thing from the start. It seems there is as much dust in the house as before despite the fact that I do all the necessary maintenace on the thing as per the book. Did I wash $600 down the dumper???

Are you refering to an Electronic Air Cleaner or a non-electric washable type of electrostatic air filter? The reason I ask is, $600 is alot to pay for a non-electric washable filter.

Filter

I find most people dont clean the coil units in the elec.filter like they should and that is why you have more dust in the home. There are a lot of people that have found a new pleated filter that will fit in their old filter hole and used it and just turn off the electric one ED
