White residue on AC condenser fins

All of the condenser fins are covered by a white substance. A foaming coil cleaner does nothing. What is this stuff and will it affect the AC. So far the AC works fine.

Can't say for sure, but if this coil has been cleaned before with an acid type cleaner it may not have been rinsed throughly. This does cause a white powderer looking substance from the metal being eaten away from the overdose of cleaner.

good question

i have wondered myself about this. as mentioned, coil cleaning will cause this, but i personally have seen many coils that have never been cleaned look like this. my guess is that oxidation caused by dissimilar metals (copper tubing, aluminum coil) may be causing this.
