Unhappy Why is sliding window a/c more $$ than up/down?

We have been looking at buying a room a/c unit for a side to side sliding window.
The problem is most stores don't have them and those that do want a whole lot more $$ than the same unit for a up/down window model.
What's da deal?
T.I.A. (thanks in advance)

I'm guessing it's a simple effect of the economies of scale. They simply don't make as many vertical units as horizontal units, so they price them higher. The more of a product you make and sell the less expensive it is for you to produce it, and sell.
