Unhappy Gurgling sound from domestic hot water system

When taking a hot shower---we can hear a gurgling sound in the cellar near our boiler?
We have a 6 Gal. tankless coil-- boiler.
Question--is it air in our domestic hot water supply???
Does the coil need flushing with acid???

Also the water temperature fluctuates.

We do not hear the gurgling when heating the house---only when taking a hot shower.
Thanks,
Rainman

Air?

I will assume you have a forced hot water heating system since you didn't provide that info. If you had air in your domestic water you'd have air spurting out of your shower or other faucets. Now again assuming you have a forced hot water heating system then the gurgling is coming from the boiler water. Most probable cause is water logged expansion tank. Drain it if it has a drain valve or replace tank.

Another cause is the coil needs to be pulled out of the boiler and cleaned. Crude collected on the coils can cause improper heat transfer making the same noise. Not a job for the average homeowner.
