Dehumidifier recommendations

I am looking for a dehumidifier for the first floor of my house. Approximate sq. footage is 1100ft. I live on Long Island and it gets pretty humid in the summer months. I do have a wall unit ac that I use when it is extremely muggy. But I prefer no ac. I would like a unit that is quiet, energy efficient, and doesnt throw off too much heat. Am I asking too much. Recommendations please.

a dehumidifier works in an enclosed room. when it's hot and muggy out you would have to close all the windows and doors for it to be effective, but you'd roast from the heat. leaving a door and window open would defeat the purpose.
a fan placed in a far window to draw air OUT of the house and only leaving windows or doors on the shaded side would be more comfortable, since you prefer not to use your a/c. as far as the humidity is concerned, nothing can correct that other than using your a/c.
