compessor cycles brief

Hi
My home central Carrier unit stopped working. I pulled the panel and found two opens. One in the thermostat (lots of corrosion and wires were separated on both opens) and one to the capacitor. I repaired both, turned on unit and now fans both on but ccompressor cycles on for 2 seconds then off for 1 minute then on again 2 seconds at regular interval. There is no time for cooling The terminals to the capacitor are pretty rusty.
This unit is 15 years old

What do you think?

Thanks guys

Can be a lot of things here. From switchs to freon or the other wires. And like how near are you to the ocean even inland the units dont last long here. The power down here is bad also Last night I was down to 90 volts on one leg for over 1 hour. So 15 years down here in Florida and all the rust you see .Go for a whole new unit or it will be just one thing after another. From now on ED just the way I look at it here in Fl.
