Maintenance for AC

I have an AC built into the house central blower system. The same system that uses to provide heat during the winter if that helps in what I am describing.

Do I need to do anything to my AC each year? In a car, every so many years, I would have to take the car to have new feon pump into it. Does that go the same for the AC in the house?

No you dont have to have freon put in your home AC unit every year, IF you dont have a leak. Make sure you put new air filters in or keep clean ones in about every 90 days or less if they get a lot of use or dirt on them. It could be good if you did have a hvac tech go over the AC and the furnace one time a year if you dont know all about the units. You can hose off the outdoor unit coils when its not running and keep it clean around it. ED

Wink Preventative Maintenance Timing?

Summer time is not the best time to get Preventative Maintenance (PM) done on your A/C system. The spring time is much better. The tech's are less busy and will spend more time going over more details.

But to answer your question, yes you could have it looked at every few years to be sure everything is working as it should. Get a check list of the items the company will check on (PM service call.)

You can also read up on the net about P.M. items that you can do yourself.

i would

clean both coils, inside and out, check for dirt on the blower wheel, change filter, clean out drain, check temp difference from supply and return at the unit, look for 16 to 20 degree split. look for burnt wires, etc.
