thermostat

I have a Carrier a/c unit with a heat pump and would like to install a new digital thermostat. Can anyone tell me if this is any different from installing one for a regular unit with out a heat pump? Is there a specific kind I need to buy and Is the installation the same?

Thanks!

tstat replacement

be sure to get one compatible for a heat pump, having 2 stages of heat. other than that wire it up just like the old one....turn off breakers first to avoid shorting low volt fuse, i like the White rogers 1F89-211 personally, but we all have favorites. i do not recommend a programmable tstat, as during heat mode setback you will lose your savings from 2nd stage (generally electric heat) kicking in to help catch up
