Air Condition not working.
Is there any way to check the capacitor and the "start Assist" on a Fedders window airconditioner to see if they are working properlly? I have a multimeter. Thanks. Milt.

Completly isolate the capacitor from all exterior connections and short-circuit the capacitor terminals. Connect in series a battery, the meter, and the capacitor. The meter must be set to indicate D.C. current. A current-reading indicates that the capacitor is charging to the the battery voltage. When the capacitor voltage = the battery voltage the current will = zero.

Capacitor test
Thanks Pattbaa: I will try it. Now I assume that if the current reaches zero that indicates that the capacitor is good, and if the current did not stop flowing that would indicate some kind of short in the capacitor and a faulty capacitor. Does that sound right? Once again thanks, Milt.
