No Cooling
#1

Hello Everyone,
We have this Carrier HVAC unit that has stopped blowing cold air. The outside unit is apparently working because I can see that the fan is running. I am not sure about the compressor though. I can also feel the air coming out of the vents in our rooms; it's just that it is not cool. It is as if the thermostat has been switched to the "Fan" mode. Could it be for the lack of freon or something else? What are some of the basic things that I can check myself before calling for a repair service?
Thanks for all the help.

blower and both coils inside inad out must be clean. sounds as if the compressor is not running, or possibly a low charge. se if you can determine if the compressor is running. turn off power, open outdoor unit. look for burnt wiring, swollen capacitor.
