Check the breaker for the outdoor unit 1st. It will be in the breaker panel and should be a double pole about 40 amps.

Hi! Thank you. I checked, and the only thing that I can find outside is a box, which I think is the emergency box. It says to pull out to turn off, but it is not out. I just turned the air back on to see what happens, and I still have hot air blowing out of the inside vents and cold air blowing out of the top of the outside unit. The circuit breaker box is in the house, and the airconditioner and the heater breakers are on. Any ideas???

Sounds like your compressor is not running. I think from here on out you should call a hvac tech to look at it. can be a high or low pressure switch has you off. Can be a burnt off wire a bad capacitor,or freon. ED

Thank you!! Not quite the answer I was hoping for!! Yesterday the a/c, today the van!! LOL!! Oh well! So, if it were freon, is there a way I could check that first? Before paying anyone to come and look????? Thanks again!

If you know electric you could look around inside it.But for freon you have to be EPA tech to look at the freon ED

Sounds like you may be in heat mode if the outdoor unit is blowing cold air which could just be a lose wire , bad solenoid, or reversing valve stuck. Or could be compressor not running. Either way you need a tech. You cannot check refrigerant charge unless EPA certified.

Talking It is fixed!! Thanks!!

Thanks! Actually, my husband figured it out, and it is working again. Aparently, behind the filter was really really dirty, and he cleaned it offf. I guess it was clogged up. I didn't realize that when he was changing the filters, he wasn't cleaning anything out!! Thanks again!!
