Question

Is there a way to improve heating perfomance in a specific room? I have a forced air fuel oil heating system that heats the house adequately except for one room. Very little heated air comes out of the registers - I have already checked to make sure that the registers and duct switches are open. Can a seperate blower be installed within the ducts for that one room to force more air through? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello R Powell:

Several possiblities can cause the problem you discribed.

One may be a seperated, cracked, collapsed, crashed or restricted duct. In order to verify this, you will need to enter the attic.

Turn the heater on, take a flashlight and go up there and look for any or all of the above mentioned possibilites.

To check for any heat loose in the ducting tubes, run your hand over the joints, etc.
Should you find any heat loss, seal it up using duct tape.

Another remote possibility is that room may be just too far from the heater.

Try closing up some of the other registers in less used rooms to half way opened or fully closed, if the room is not used to direct more heat to the problem room.

Good Luck
