Two-speed vs. variable speed furnaces

I am currently looking at 2 speed and variable speed furnaces and have been given differing opinions on reliability and value. I currently live in a 2 story home with a basement and plan on living there for a long time. I was wondering if anyone has an unbiased opinion on the matter as well as pros and cons of each. Additionally, should i look for a specific brand? So far I have looked at Carrier, American Standard, and Rheem.

new Furnace

You dont say up north or down south here. For north Id look at a 92 AFUE down south an 80 AFUE. Myself I like trane. But get 3 bids for the same job. Make sure they run a heat and AC load on the home. Also the one that has been there for a long time sells the best. Cause he backs it and can fix it. To compare fuel cost there

For 2 story Id go for the variable blower ED

My .02 cents
