I am in need of a new central air HVAC system (gas pack) and have been told that there is little difference between brands of equipment and that the name brands are more expensive because you are paying for the name. Is there any truth to either of these claims?

Hi:bpaige

Excellent question your asking.
Is there a definitive answer? NO!

Any major brand is always a better choice when service or parts are needed.

However, even this isn't so very important.
What is important is the dealer and the warranty..

If your contractor/installer isn't around to offer you service in a few years down the road, your furnace isn't worth much.

The problem, in my opinion, is everyone wants a cheap price. If the local dealer can't make a fair profit and goes under, everyone in the area suffers.

I prefer to do business with local contractors who have a good business, sell a major brand and will be around when I need them. Price, therefore, becomes secondary.

In the long run, I think we all benefit. This is, as I stated, only my personal opinion.

Personally and professionally, I would reccomend you base your purchase on three factors.

Brand.
Warranty.
Dealer.

Good Luck,
TomBartco
