Central A/C Squeking

Elec. central A/C unit outside is squeaking intermittantly. Neighbor called first time, it had stopped by the time I got outside. Later, I heard it...sounds like squeking belt, bearing?? Anything I can do myself or do I open my wallet and bend over?

This could be coming from the fan motor itself. You could try adding oil to the motor and shaft. Find the tiny holes marked on the fan motor , use good quality fan motor oil. I am not familiar with belt driven condenser fans. If you have one, check belt. Make sure you turn off ALL power to the complete unit, inside and outside.

Central A/C Hot air

My A/C puts out cool air the first hour of operation. As the day progresses it runs continuously and warm air is produced from the vents. The thermostat is set for 78 degrees. When the indoor temperature rises to 90 degrees, I shut off the A/C and open the windows. The unit operates normally except for the warm air problem. Thanks!

Icing on AC line

I discovered icing on the AC freon line when I investigated why the unit wasn't blowing cool air. I looked at the filter and found it laying at a 45 degree angle to the opening of the duct work--not braced to the opening as it should have been. The AC unit is about 8 years old with no previous problems. I understand that a dirty filter can cause this icing (though I don't know why). However, can essentially NO filter cause this icing as well?
