Pressure Relief Valve-How-to-change

What is involved in changing a Pressure Relief Valve on a Slant/Fin Galaxy gas boiler? Do I need to COMPLETELY drain and refill the system or are there any valves that can be shut off to isolate the relief valve and then change?

thanks

Just turn off the main water to the boiler then trip the lever on the relief valve till no water comes out and remove it.

Also turn the power off to the boiler to assure it don't try to come on while you are servicing it.

Be aware thet the water may be hot at that part of the boiler and unless you plan to do it real fast, close any automatic air vents before you remove the valve. Then don't waste any time. Make sure the new valve matches the old and get the pipe dope or teflon tape on it before the change. You will be pulling the system into an airlock and they are a balancing act. If you hear a strange noise in the pipes (like Big Bad John heard way down in the mine) get something in that hole quick. You may have lost your vacuum and will have water all over the place in about 5 seconds.
