Gas smell outside when furnace runs

I have a Trane Executive High Efficiency gas FHA furnace. When the furnace runs, I notice a strong natural gas smell outside only, like it's coming from the exhaust stack. I never smell this inside and have a carbon monoxide detector, which never indicates a problem. The furnace is about 15 yrs old. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. Other than this problem, the furnace seems to work OK.

Are all burners running? Are they all firing the hole length of the burner?

Gas smell

Good point trinitro.
Is the smell burnt gas or raw gas? Is it ONLY there when the furnace is operating or at other times too?
If it's raw gas smell look out for a big bang soon. Shut it down and Get a tech/oh ASAP.
DON'T fool around if it's a raw smell.

I would have to say it's more of a raw smell. I should also note it only does this when the furnace is running. Also, it's been doing this awhile. I will check the burners and post the results.
