I have a trane heat pump that blows the 5 amp
auto type fuse. The service guy put in a new one and unit ran 2 weeks. Today it was running fine then stopped. I changed the fuse. The unit came on and ran for 2 minutes then quit. Fuse was blown. Any ideas? Suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Brent

The low voltage fuse is blowing because something in the circuit is drawing too many amps.Your transformer possibly a 40VA will burn up if you didnot have that fuse.To locate the problem requires testing differn't circuits. Recommend using some car fuses 2Amp. Can go to the autostore and get a package of fuses and a couple of fufe holders with a wire attached.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ELECTRICAL BACKGROUND, CALL FOR A SERVICEMAN. Start by turning off the high voltage (ie the safty disconnect, breakers or fuses). The problem you are looking for is a needle in a haystack. Let's find out were the problem is. First open the electric panel on the outside condenser. VERY CAREFULLY WRITE DOWN WHAT EACH LOW VOLTAGE WIRE IS CONNECTED TO (KEEP TRACK OF THE COLORS LIKE "R"IS CONNECTED TO A RED WIRE.EVEN PUT STICKERS ON THE WIRES AND MARK WHAT TERMINALS THEY ARED CONNECTTED TOO.
They should look like R,Y,C,B etc.
Now with the power OFF disconnect each wire and tape the ends. With these all disconnected and taped turn the power back on and wait 6 minutes. If your car fuse inside at the airhandler blew again the problem is in the wires and or airhandler, or thermostat. But if it did Not blow it possibly was in the out side condenser. If it is in the outside condenser let's turn the power OFF and install a fuse (2 Amp car size) on each of those wires you disconnected. Example; On the Y terminal connect the fuse holder wire and what ever wire color that was connected to that "Y" terminal connect to the othe side of the fuse holder with a small wire nut. Turn the power on, let me know which one(s) of the fuses blew. Also the model and serial number on the equipment. I'll tell you the next step then.
Good Luck, be careful of the High Voltage there is usually more than one Breaker.
