On Sept 25, Schip1 wrote in with a similar problem to mine, but there wasn't enough detail to get an adequate response. Since I'm really cold right now, I'll try to describe my problem with a little more detail.

I've got a Trane Heat Pump (installed 1987), and the A/C works great on both fan and auto, but the heat doesn't work. I mean, the temp in the house is 64, and I set the heat to 75 on auto and nothing kicks on. So then I try the heat with the fan option, but the fan kicks on and only blows cool air.

I have no clue about home repair, so any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thankyou!

Hi K:

How was it last heating season? Has the thermostat been changed? When you turn it on for heating, does the outdoor section come on? Is there a malfunction lite lit on the thermostat? Some piece of information is missing or you've got a bad reversing valve which I doubt since most of them are configured to fail in the heat position and not in the cool position. Let us know. Thanks. John.
