I currently have square supply duct running down the middle of my basement ceiling, which limits the ceiling height in the room. Can I replace the square duct with round duct running through the trusses above? The square supply duct is a 16x8 extended plenum, which tapers to 12x8 in the middle. Four 6" and one 5" round ducts branch off of that. I'm thinking of replacing it with an 8" round duct (up in the trusses) off the 16x8 section, with the same round ducts branhing off at the same points as they do on the current square duct.

NO..... 12X8 duct handles about 500 CFM of air..8" round about 220 cfm... you would need to use 12" round
