Taking covers off of furnace?

I know it's a strange question but we recently moved into a house and I want to replace the filters in the furnace (Bryant 373LAV)...there is one on top and one on the bottom and I need the top one off...of course the manual doesn't bother to explain how to do it (probably b/c it's supposed to be easy) It looks like a pretty typical furnace with two metal "grids"...so any ideas to try?

Good. Most panels lift up slightly and then pull off. You usually have to remove the top one before the bottom one will lift off.
