heat anticipator

sounds like the heat anticipator was never set. Is it the round mercury style?

Mine does the same thing but it is an older furnace. I believe it is my anticipator. I know on the old round mechanical thermostats that it is adjustable... but how do you adjust it on a new Honeywell programmable one??

1 Year old should be under warranty and messing with may void it.

If it's not under warranty we need as much info as possible. Is the burner kicking on & off also?

programmables

I don't believe they are adjustable, they use a learning curve...fuzzy logic.
If you have the old mercury round thermostat set too low, the thermostat will shut the heat off even when the temp is never reached. They use a variable resistance heater on the heating side. The cooling side is fixed with a resistor. You can set it to match the gas valve amp draw, or check it with an ammeter.
