Angry Furnace cycling on and off

I have a Carrier gas furnace that's about 7 yrs. old. It's controled by a Honeywell programable electronic thermostat (7 yrs also) What happens is the furnace will come on and run for about 5 min. It turns off, and then within 5 seconds it comes back on and runs for about another 2 min. and then shuts off normally. When it shuts off the second time, it does not come back on till the thermostat normally turns it back on. Is this a problem with the thermostat or the heater? What should I check??? Thanks for any help.

jumping r and w bypasses the tstat, if the problem usually occurs after 5min, leave the jumper on for 10min
