carrier furnace help
My carrier furnance in the garage stopped working a couple of weeks ago I asked someone at a furnace store locally and tried jumping the rh-w and I hear something in the control unit but I get no spark on the igniter. Since these are common to die and it looks old sould I try to clean it or just replace it? about how much are they and where can I order one form? can I get one at like home depot or a local hardware. I'd like to spend as little as possible

Is this heating your garage or your home?
YOu won't find the ignitor board at Home Depot or any hardware store, you will have to go to a HVAC Supply house and get it from them. or a dealer.
As for age, I don't know.. I am sure someone else here can help you here.

thanks
I thought I might not be able to get anything there
it is in my garage I think it might be the old one from the house as its in the added on section that I think is as old as the new furnace
I checked a couple places online and the one that I got a price from seemed real high are carrier parts higher than most?? the places suggested in other threads havent replied yet
thanks for the help Jeff

I would suggest to just retire that furnace, and get those new compact ceiling hung furnace that you can get at Home Depot.
Nice thing about these units, its up in the air, and will free up your floor space from that free standing unit.

first locate what is making the sound when there is a call for heat. is there an inducer fan motor for the flue? if so is it turning? if it turns, the board may not be the problem, need more info.

Jay,
I plan on doing that for a aux heater for my shop
this is a nice size garage 4 1/2 car+ and has a separate area on the side for bathroom storage furnace and back entrance almost car isze like a hallway. Plus it has a upstiars which I'm making into a dance studio for my wife. so i'm heating three zones and have 1/2 the ductwork up and there is no way she wants a heater hanging in the corner up there LOL.
What btu furnace would you suggest I dont know the sqaure footage but the old furnace is 125,000 btu and work well even without all the ducts in a row
hvac4u,
I havent opened the control unit yet wife came home early cause of all the snow and got me running her on errands
so my projects got pushed back I''ll be postin pic's in allittle while and checking out the furnace I have the camp stove by the furnace warming the area and the camp heater warming the shop my shrink wrap gun works nice to do a quick warm up so the camp heater can try to keep up
The noise is coming from the control unit I tried the beat on it to free up relay method with no avail I think it may have inducer fan but nothing is happening I never listened when it was working I think this may be old one out of the house just bought the house couple years ago house had new furnace figure that one is old one out of house so it prob been sitting only beeing used once in a while for a few year so im hopeing something needs cleaning or replaced like relay or sumtin I work on boats in the northeast I know how sitting can effect these kind of things anyways I'll be back with pics and Ideas soon thanks for everones help, Jeff and denise

ok first I think this is a 1975 I went out and pulled the cover off the control panel and one of the relays is working sometimes it sparks more than not looks like there may be some kind of temp sensor thing up in the heating area if I pull a wire fan comes on dont think it has the vent blower only one main blower I took alot of pics some of the wiring diagram dont look to great Im gonna go get it and try some pics inside and have it to read I have about 50 pics any paticulaR view I should send I want to get this going as I cant afford to buy a new one and this isnt worth putting much money into I think. but I want to try and get it going resonably thanks jeff
is there anyway to send more than one pic??

ok
the wires going to the ign mod are black on the t2 side(no power) of the ign mod white on the t1 side (+power here) (my wiring diagram say green) I checked all the wires on the gas valveall 5 of them (i have post#s and colors ) and only the white one from t1 (on igniter)has power. so I checked all the connections on the printed circut board(ref- 6c1 on diagram) pr-1(black wire goes to transformer 120v, line-1 black wire goes to power switch as does line-2 (have a light type switch on side of furnace) pr-2 is white it goes to transformer it has groundthere is a common (com) and hi and low connectors all for the blower. then there is gas 1, 2, 3, gas 1 has 120 v 2&3 have none 1 is the yellow wire it goes to the gas valepost#4 thenand to the pilot(electronic) gas 2 is the black wire it goes to the pilot ignitor and to the #2& #3 post on the gas valve gas-3 white wire goes to #1 on the gas valveand to the pilot(ignitor) so in all the pilot sparker thingy has 3 wires wht grn yel going to it and the main lead for the ignitor
there is also sec1 & sec 2 termanils on this board pull #1 blower starts power in wire none on term. power when hooked up sec 2 pull blower startsrehook hfr relay sparks blower quits power in wire none on term when hooked up No POwer????????
then I got brave:
i jumped 24v from the W (themstat terminal) to gas-2 the blower came on and there was power at t2 on the pilot ignitor but no sparking on pilot itself. so I jumped the gas-3 the blower came on and something in the gas valve did sumtin?? waited a few sec. no sparky. so then I jumped gas-2 & 3 at the same time blower movement sound from within gas valve no sparky wait few seconds -------- gave up
also if I unhook limit switch blower starts but no spark
the printed circut board has numbers on it
upperleft HH84AA |o11|was blacked over then o11 is after it
there a circle with 831 under
then 8635 stamped on it lower left
I'm tring to find msn homepages so I can post some pics brb

the point where it is sparking is where i would look closely. is this a relay that can be unplugged? is it part of the board? do not think this will be a cheap fix if it is the board, the old ones are not cheap. what prices have you gotten?
