Exclamation Condensation on Stack Pipe

During this past weeks extremely cold weather, my furnace has been running quite a lot. I have recently noticed water dripping from the elbow of the stack pipe, before it goes into the connecting chimney pipe. Is this due to the extreme cold outside, and is this something I should be overly concerned about? I have a small bucket to catch the drips of water. Its not a constant stream. My furnace is gas fired (York Diamond 80), forced hot air.

you do have a problem, need more info. is it double wall or single wall pipe? how far does it run on horizontal and vertical runs? does any other appliance tie into it? is it vented into a masonary chimney? if so is it lined? how many btus is the furnace? sounds like a lot of info, but your answers will put us right on the spot

I am not sure how many BTUs the furnace is-York Diamond 80, the hot water heater is also tied into the pipe and when in use, the dripping appears to stop. As to the pipe, I believe its single wall, galvanized metal, the chimney is brick, not sure if its lined as the house is 100 years old. However, there is a metal exaust pipe all the way up with a cap on top of the chimney. Hope this helps.

i think the problem is that we have to get that flue gas out quicker, giving it less time to cool and condensate. when water heater kicks in, faster flow up the flue, no water. run doublewall pipe from furnace to chimney, check local code, water heater may be able to be tied into the double wall with single wall. increasing the rise/slope of the horizontal run will help, you did not give particulars about that
