Ease of oil filter cartridge replacement?
Just wondering how easy it is to change the oil filter on my tank. My hvac guy is too busy to come out for the annual service(i know, should have made it in nov.) it is currently minus 3 up here in MA and getting colder. I know i need a general filterreplacement: 1A-30 for a General filter:1A-25A. should thisbe easy enough? Any tips for this first time try? Also, I noticed my burner getting loud it is a good beckett. Last year I saw my oil guy oiling it and I have tried to oil it in the correct motor oil holes with regular household oil, should I use something other type ofoil? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Dont use a 3in 1 oil on the motor Use a # 10 for all motors. You can change the filter ,do you know how to bleed the pump if you have to to get the oil back in? It should be looked at and new nozzle ,air set electrodes set also

I don't know how to bleed the pump. ANd I have used 3/1oil about twice, I will stop that-did it hurt the motor?? Is there perhaps a step-by-step instruction somewhere on the net to change the filter, does it come with the filter? Thanks again

You can put a few drops of #10 oil in the motor its better for it. Why do you want to change the oil filter now? If its inside and the furnace is running right now as cold as it is Id let the tech do it when he can. go www.freepoolheat.com/oil.html it will show you about the burner. By loud what do you mean???? when it runs or like on startup or in the motor. Is your air filter clean if theis is a hot air furnace?

good point, thanks
It is an oil fired gravity water system with radiators. THe boiler/furnace itself is from the 1930/40's and covered with asbestos insulation. it is good cast iron but the size of a fiat. The burner; however is a fairly new becket in good working order. The sound comes from the burner motor while it is running. Not overly loud, just a little grating. THe entire system was checked and serviced in November of 02. I just thought changing the filter would help the oil last longer. Thanks again, my service man should be freed up for service calls by next week.

Make sure then he goes over the burner motor real good. Could just be the fan has moved a little or it could be in that motor. Id tell him that now so he would have one on the truck for sure just if. also make sure he checks the pump pressure. AND dont over oil the motor. We have changed out more motors from over oiling them than under oil

If the motor is making kind of a galloping grinding noise, that is a sign of worn bearings. It will probably last another ten years but the sound can be annoying. If you decise to replace it, go with a Beckett PSC motor. They are the quietest burner motor I have ever heard and they will become the standard someday.
