Lightbulb oil burner

Do you know where the little plug is on the oil pump to bleed it? It could be one with a hole in it or a small hose could slip on. they are all different. If so open it just a little with a can under it. Hit the reset button on the burner and let the air out till you get oil then close it. if burner goes off reset it and run again till you get all air out of itand just oil . Then close the plug and burner should start. look at any paper work that you have for the burner it should show you where this plug is. ED

restarting oil burner 2

Thnak you Ed. One more question: My burner runs off an offset thermostat. Should I turn it up to where I hear the furnace running while I do the bleeding and restart?

Yes the burner has to be running to bleed it. if it dont get the oil there at first you will have to hit the reset button ED

How do you know you ran out of fuel? Oil tank gauges are not prone to show more oil than is in the tank. Although often they show less than is in the tank. If you have no heat, are you just assuming the tank is empty or did you measure it with a stick or something? The reason I ask is because if the day goes by and you thing you have the problem licked, you may open a new can of worms after hours and have trouble getting a tech to help.
