Floor Drop In Electric Heaters

What is your opinion of the Floor Drop-In, Qmark FDI1504 electric heaters? These are 1500/750 watt units when run on 240V.

Do these heaters compare to say a free standing, "milkhouse" heater also of the 1500 watt type?

Would three or four of these units, installed infront of patio doors, provide the same or more heat as the free standing "milk house" type portable heater?

Tried a floor drop in just one time. Didnt like it. Its more like the cold air cant get down in the box where the heat is and the hot air out. Its to small around the heat coil. I go for the free stand and put them away when I dont need them. This over cutting the floor up

HELP!! Frozen Ruud Heat/AC Unit**ICE**

This morning I discovered that my Ruud Achiever 11 Super High Efficency Heat Pump had ice on the top vents of the unit as well as the blades of the fan. The ice on the blades was making the unit very noisy while it was running...I immediately turned off my heat inside on my thermostat to stop the fan. I was advised by my father to pour warm water on the unit to thaw the ice and then prevent the water from getting into the unit, so it wouldn't re-freeze on the blades or the top. Well it took about 4 buckets of water to thaw the ice and then we just turned out unit back on and it seemed to be working properly. Three hours later the ice had re-formed and my husband declared that it was broken and he was heading to Home Depot to figure out what to do. Our heat is off...and I covered the unit with a trash bag to temporarily prevent more water from collecting and freezing. I fear that we damaged the unit by pouring water on it. I just finished putting a soffit around some ductwork in my basement. Now I'd like to figure out how and where to put a register coming from the duct through the soffit, before I sheetrock the soffit. My first question is: Should I put the register on the bottom of the ductwork/soffit or on the side of the duct? I was thinking the bottom so that the heat will be directed down. My second question is: How do I go about making up for the inch or two between the duct and the end of the soffit. Is there some kind of flange I can use?? (one side would be attached to the ductwork and the other end to the register). Someone told me to just cut a hole in the ductwork and bend over the ends to attach the register. But somehow I think there must be a better way. I know they make special units specifically made to come out of the duct to the sheetrock for the registers, but I think I need something smaller (maybe a custom piece?). Any suggestions?Read More
