insulating hot water supply lines

a question for the board, i have a ranch style home, with hot water baseboard heating, wondered if i insulated the hot water pipes that are exposed in my basemnet, would this help to keep some additional heat? the last registers on the sytem aren/t very hot, its not a zoned system, just one big loop, thanks everyone

It might help but probably won't be noticable. Depending on how many feet of baseboard is on the total loop, you may be able to close the dampers on the first few and not heat those rooms as fast. Then the last ones on the loop can catch up. The heat that comes off of the pipes in the basement all goes up to warm the floor anyway so the cost of insulation won't be recovered in savings.
