Oil Furnace and Fumes

I recently bought a house and have been living there for about 5 months now. When I ran the furnace in the winter months there was never a problem. I ran it the other night and there were fumes coming from it. It almost smelled like burning oil?? Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Is it that the oil is being injected before the burner actually ignites?

Thanks in advance,

Ray

Wink

Could be the flue was cool inside. Burner damp inside Or how did it light ok.You could call a service tech to look and service it now for this winter. It should be looked at each year on oil burners. it pays to do so.

I had a service tech come and look at it. He said everything looks fine. It's has happened two more times since he checked it. I guess I will just have to call them again ans see what they say.

Thanks

If you are running any kind of a house ventilation fan, it will cause that problem. Even if it is an attic fan and you have the attic door open it will do it.
