New Blower Motor

I was considering installing a new blower motor as my existing one is very loud as well seems to draw a lot of current to start up(lights dim a little).
I have a 1970's Furnaceman in a 2 story 1000 sq ft home with basement in Winnipeg Can. Basic furnace with A/C on and off no different speed things.
My questions are, I see a these questions on Variable speed motors can I put one in or is it made for different applications ?
When/If I replace the motor do I just go with the same one or have times changed and I can get something better to circulate the air in my home when its not heating or cooling?

Thanks in advance for your help

Cheers

you will need to get the same motor, only difference may be that it is more efficient. variable speed motors need controllers, and they run off DC voltage
