Questions about excahnging non B-Type exhaust

My gas furnace doesn't seem to have a B-Type exhaust. In order to reduce the temperature in my utility room I would like to exchange to B-Type.
But before I do so I have some questions:
- can a B-Type pipe feed into a non-B-Type (at some point there is a Y piece where the gas boiler and furnace exhausts are joined - at this point I was planning to end the B-type pipes) ?
- How is a B-type cut (length)?
- Is it Ok to replace a 4" pipe with a B-Type 4" pipe (I assume that I decrease the inner diameter slightly)?
- Do I need to replace the connector at the furnace in order to use B-Type?

B-vent

B-Vent can be substituted for single wall pipe on a gas fired appliance.
They make Wye fittings in B-Vent. Why not use B-Vent all the way?
Swapping 4" B-Vent for 4" single wall is fine.
You should not cut B-Vent. They do make pieces which will adjust from
2 5/8" to 5" in length.
They do make special draft hood connector pieces in 4".

Thanks Grady.
The reason for B not all the way is that the pipe after the WYE goes up two stories through the house (not accessible). And the short pipe coming out of the gas water heater doesn't get really warm. So I figured I wanted to replace the 36" inch pipe coming out of the furnace - a 90 degree connector - a 30" pipe. Possibly the following 60 degree connector that connects to the wye.

If I would like to keep my existing wye could I use some sort of adapter from B-Type to non B? In this case I would also keep the last elbow.

Do I need to replace the draft hood connector? It looks like one piece that goes inside the furnace....

Single wall & B-Vent

I suggest you go to your local plumbing supply house, tell them what you want to do, & I'm sure they can provide you with all of the materials you need as well as answering questions about your specific application.
