Need advice on natural gas line !!!

What is the best way to disconnect a natural gas line and let the trapped natural gas in the line go to the outside without letting it into the room ..?

thanks

Shut off the meter valve so that the valve arm crosses the pipe, perpendicular. Then, unscrew the union that is downstream (house side).

AND, if you desire to have TWO open pipe ends...with the meter valve off, then unscrew the 1/2 inch cap at the furnace gas line trap (that is the bottommost pipe before it tees into your furnaces gas valve.)

just shut the gas off at the meter, or tank. then crack it open. won't be enough in there to hurt anything, just don't smoke while you do it.
