Blower Motor

Hello,

I have an ICP Furnace (age unknow). The blower motor asbly. is making noise on start up. Sounds like the fan inside the asbly. is banging against something. My questions are, (1) I, consider myself a pretty handy guy and seeing that i can buy the asbly. on line, does this part also require a gasket when mounting it back onto the furnace. (2) are there any other things i should be aware of before tackeling this job.

Blower motor

If you are replacing the whole blower assembly, it is a pretty easy & straight forward job. No gaskets are required. You might want to pull the blower & try to figure out what is making the noise. No need in replacing the whole assembly if the noise is due to a motor with bad bearings. Simply replace the motor. The same idea with the fan itself.

I posted a similar question some time ago but I think I can refine it better now. As I understand it, a "Heat Anticipator" in the classic sense is a resistance coil that will 'fool' the stat into ending the call for heat before the setpoint is reached so the furnace does not overshoot the setpoint. This is calibrated with an ammeter and a pot or something similar. The analog in a programmable thermostat is a thermistor and a CPH or Cycles Per Hour setting. My stat says to set it at 9 CPH for electric heat, 6 for conventional, 3 for High Efficiency, and 1 for radiant. So my stats are set for 3 CPH. Do I understand correctly that this means 20 minutes on, purge, then another 20 minutes, purge, another 20 minutes, purge, repeat until heat call is satisfied? Here's my issue. When I am raising the temperature of the house from 60 to 68 degrees, it can take an hour or so. I don't like the fact that my furnace and specifically the motors and gas valves are cycling so much, not just on the CPH but ramping up to Stage 2. That is, the furnace runs at Stage 1 for ten minutes, then Stage 2 for ten minutes then the CPH setting shuts it down. Then it repeats, so over an hour the furnace runs 30 minutes at Stage 1 and 30 minutes at Stage 2. Why not just set it to 1 CPH? Wouldn't it be more efficient to run 10 minutes at Stage 1 and then just 30-50 minutes at Stage 2? Will the deadband setting ensure that the furnace is not overshooting on heat calls that, once I get up to 68F, just keep it around 68F? I bought this house with an ARMSTRONG Ultra SX 80 gas furnace. Here is the thing, My bill is $360 a month!! :wall: I know I have problems, vaulted ceilings, no insulation (built in 50's) wife always cold (she's getting better, those big bills helped) but this thing is wacky. Sometimes furnace will come on and only the one burner will light and stays like that for a long time (if not forever if you dont do something). Sometimes it fires right up. DOING SOMETHING... I called out a guy, if you look in the picture he replaced the thing at the bottom with a blue wire(I think it is ignitor or starts that flame) Worked ok for a while but still does the one burner thing. What I do is flick that little brown box (at the top of the pic) with my finger. After a couple flicks it usually fires up BUT more than the money, that little box says WARNING EXPLOSION HAZARD DO NOT TOUCH CALL SERVICEMAN Anyway, enough of this long post.
