burner ignition problems

Hi I bought a house with a an old gas boiler.
It's a Valliant mod# GA92-120 SPVD if that helps.

I have a solid pilot, but when I turn up the thermostats the circulators kick in but the burner wont ignite.

A friend told me it was the aquastat, so I replaced it, but still have the same problem.

also the system has worked fine for the 3 previous winters and there were no changes to the system prior to the problem.

thanks for any help.

Boiler

With that model #, I presume the SPVD stands for standing pilot with vent damper. If I'm right, check the vent damper to see if it is opening. If it is not the burner will not fire.

Grady you are good!!!!!

It was only about half way open, so I manualy opened it the rest of the way and it kicked right on.

I wish I asked here $190 ago.

thank you sooo much.

Lucky

That's part of what 20 years experience gets you. You may have gotten lucky this time. Maybe it was just a fluke but I doubt it. You will likely have trouble with that damper again. They are easy to replace but often not available everywhere. Give the pivot points a DROP of oil & keep an eye on it. You might want to get a new one for when, not if, yours craps out for good.

yeah I'm going to see if I can find a new one tomorrow.

It's a honeywell electromechanical vent damper, and the local burner/control shop stocks alot of inventory.

So hopefully he has one, or can order me one.

thanks again, I was going nuts trying to figure this out.

Damper

If the shop does not have a Honeywell, there is one made by Effical (sp?) which I think will interchange. Glad I could help. Should something else crop up in the future, we are here & will do what we can to help.
