Hi all I'm a newbie at this so please bare with me! Have a York forced air gas furnace that's about 18 years old. When I go to turn it on either at the thermostat or power switch near unit, the circuit breaker trips...no pilot, no power, zilch! Short history: I had to replace the spark-ignitor and ignition-control unit this winter when the pilot would light, activate the blower, then shut off. Just changed the blower motor in February when the old one would just hum after pilots lit, and fan relay would trigger. Removed the transformer and coil: replaced the coil, transformer checked out fine. Still nothing. Please help hot in Michigan!!

Hi. I have been maintaining my furnace for the past few years. Recently, my furnace stopped working and I found the problem was the shaft between the oil pump and the blower motor had worn out. I replaced the shaft and took the opportunity to clean the furnace, put a new nozzle in and change the oil filter. I primed the system and ran a coffee can full of oil through it before I started it up. I have an air boot on it and adjusted the airflow by looking at the flame (I do not have the proper sensors and equipt to do it any other way). Recently, the furnace was belching black smoke (about 2 months after my cleaning). I cleaned the furnace once again, inspected the nozzle and adjusted the airflow. It worked for about a week and started getting clogged up again with the heavy soot and smoke backing up. The chimney is clear and I cleaned out the pipe to the flue. My question is; why is this happening? I currently have the furnace shut off so it will cool down and then I can inspect it. The furnace is a Beckett and is about 20 years old (steel boiler). I inspected the heat exchanger tubes and noticed what looked like rust spots in a few different tubes. I was unsure if it was rust or if it was from the turbulators (they have a orange/brown color to them). If the tubes had rust in them, this could indicate that I have a boiler leak and that is causing the clogging - but I don't know. Anyone have any suggestions???
