Gas won't come on or ignite

I have a Carrier Weathermaker I. When the thermostat is turned up, nothing in the unit ignites the gas. Any suggests on components to test would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bogart

The whole system dead?

Fan work when you turn t-stat fan switch to ON?

If yes, is the small induder fan motor running when you call for heat?

Something similar happened to me

My gas furnace stopped lighting, and luckily the previous owner of the house had left a spare hot surface ignitor (leftover from a maintenance job). I installed that and kept the family warm. It's an easy fix IF you that's the problem and IF you have a replacement part in hand or available near by. I then bought a backup ignitor from www.arnoldservice.com just in case (a lot of good info on that site).

But: Jay11J brings up a good point: please tell what noises the furnace makes, if it *looks* like it wants to light, or if it's just plain dead.
