Goodman furnace problems

Hello. I have a home with a Goodman gas furnance. Pilot light is lit. Once you increase the temperature on the thermostat, it attempts to start. But, it shuts itself off in a couple of minutes. The Fan starts when prompted manually through the thermostat. But, it never blows heat when prompted.

I've changed the themostat. But, it didn't fix the problems. I was advised to "reset" the furnace, but am unable to locate the reset button.

Any suggestions?

Do the main burners ever light?

On some Goodman's,turning the main 120 volt power source off, then back on will reset it. May have an on/off switch at the furnace or possibly the breaker will have to be turned off and on.

Yes, the burners light

Once you adjust the temperature, the main burners come on. I get tricked every time in believing that it'll work. But after a few minutes, it shuts off and the burners go out.

When you installed the new thermostat, assuming it has a heat anticipator, did you set it to match the furnace requirements. Also, have you tried cleaning the flame sensor?

Help with intermittent oil furnace

I have an oil burning Lennox D1202-70-3 (I believe that's the model number, its a little worn). It has a Wayne MSR pump. My problem is, the furnace was cleaned this time last year. That was prompted by a similar problem. The fan stayed on constantly, signaling a problem. I tried pushing the reset button, but that did not work. When the tech came out, he replaced 2 filters, and the nozzles, and readjusted the electrodes. Unfortunatly, I had a tech out a 2nd time, since the nozzle immediately plugged. Anyway, I'm experiencing a similar problem now. I set the temp, and the heat comes on, sometimes. Other times, the house gets cold, I press the reset button, it takes a bit for ignition, I get the black smoke and rumbling, and I have fire. The flame looks normal. The furnace may run fine for a couple days, then not start, and I press the reset button, and it comes back on for another couple days. I've had to hit the reset 2x now in the past week. Unfortunatly, I do not know much about this unit, since I don't have an owners manual. I purchased this house just about 2 years ago, and it is now 20yrs old. I have no idea how old the furnace is. The tech that came out last time was from/recommended by my oil supplier. Is there something else I can do myself for troubleshooting? Or should I just call the tech again?

We have a Payne furnace that seems to function and heat the house ok. However I've noticed that when the furnace is running there seems to be a bunch of air getting forced out somewhere on the furnace itself. I say somewhere because in our installation, the entire top portion of the furnace (heat exchanger?) seems to have been covered in some sort of padded metallic (insulating?) covering and sealed with metallic tape along all the edges. When the heater runs, this padding buldges out on all four sides away from the metal walls of the unit. It seems this hot air pressure is causing the tape along the corners to fail, and let hot air get pushed out where the furnace is sitting. Or is this normal? Thanks for any opinions!
