I replaced my igniter with a glow stick. Everything worked for 2 days and then just the tip of the glow stick worked and the furnace would not light. The supplier took back the faulty glow stick and gave me a Norton 271M which, when I installed it, was a little too large for the mounting whole, and it arced and sparked. That igniter is now ruined. No other visual damage around the arcing. I finally installed the correct replacement igniter Norton 271N. The venter fan comes on, the pressure switch clicks and then about 20 seconds later I hear another click (when presumbably the igniter should turn on) and nothing happens. I know the igniter is good - brand new out of the box and I did not touch it. When things arced, did a sensor pop? I reset the 4 sensors I found by pushing in a red tab and sliding the tab over. The a/c portion of the unit works. I'm wondering if the arc caused damage elsewhere? Thoughts? The red light on the control board is solid red, indicating that works.

YIKES!! It was 1:30 am last night. I was still awake and I heard the furnace fan blower turn on as it normally does. A few minutes go by, and I start smelling a faint odor of Natural gas coming from the vent. I feel the vent, and it was blowing cool are. I had an issue with this blowing cooler air not to long ago, there's actually a thread in here about it. I wasn't sure if it was just my senses acting up, but NG has a very distinct odor. I woke my wife up to verifiy, and she said she smelt some too. I only could smell it in the master bedroom, in which it's the closest vent to the actual furnace and blower. I immidiately got up and turned off the TStat. Did not turn on or off any lights, didn't want to blow myself up if there was enough NG in the air. It was a faint smell, and not overpowering. What can cause this? This unit was installed in 82, and I believe it's a Carrier 58G model.
