Extended Warranty

I recently had a variable speed, 2 stage furnace installed and was wondering if it’s worth purchasing an extended warranty. What are peoples thoughts on the value of the extended warrantys? I was quoted a price of $200 for 5yrs and $420 for 10years. Do those prices sound fair and/or appropriate?

The 10 year will be well worth it. Price sounds close to what I paid for mine.

My parents brought one and so did I. My parents had trouble with the board on the furnace, warranity has run off.. Anyway, the warranity paid for it self the first time around....

I had trouble with mine last year, and the warranity paid for itself 2 times already.

So do it. and it will be a peace of mind for the next 10 years if anything goes wrong, and you won't be caught off guard of you happen to be laid off or money is tight down the road.

You may want to find out if you must have furnace serviced every year to keep warranty in force. Although yearly service is a good thing.

Also pay close attention to what you are actually getting.

Does the unit come with a 5 years parts warranty anyways?
