Furnace kicks on for 5 mins. then shuts down

I have to keep resetting what I believe is the draft safeguard switch. Then I turn thermostat way down, then up to desired temp. The furnace will kick on, but again for only about 5 mins or so, then shuts down. Do these safeguard switches go bad? Thanks in advance for your help.
By the way this is a carrier gas furnace, Model 58PAV Upflow,

Chuck

They can bur first there are some items to check. I'm assuming you believe it's the DSS because of the number of fault code flashes on the board? Is it # 31? The DSS is a temperature activated switch which opens if the draft temperature gets too high. You'll want to see if the flue is open all the way [no obstructions], make sure the combustion air motor is running up to speed and is also staying on during the run cycle [iow- not a bad motor]. Take the combustion air motor out and make sure the fan wheel isn't broken, rotted or loose on the motor shaft. The pressure switch is also in the same circuit, so you'll wnat to see if it's operating properly. You can download a manual for the furnace at www.carrier-commercial.com Let us know what you find.
