Coleman Furnace
Hi Tim here I have a Robert Grayson control on a coleman propane furnace and the pilot will only stay ignited if I hold the start button down and the flame is very weak.

And if after following Grady's advice to the letter the pilot flame is still weak, maybe the thermocouple is bad.
Now...I assume we have a thermocouple here. Is it possible that the thermocouple connection at the gas valve may have become loose? You'll need a small adjustable wrench to tighten it. If tight, the thermocouple itself could be bad; when was the last time it was replaced? they go for about $5, a modest investment, go for it.

true indeed...but if the pilot flame is weak, the thermocouple won't get hot enough, won't produce enough electricity and the safety shutoff valve would turn the gas valve OFF.

If the pilot flame is good, you really need an adaptor to measure the millivolts being produced by the thermocouple. If the millivolts are 10-15 or so and the pilot wont stay lit, you probably have an electric gas valve that needs to be replaced. If you get 0-10 millivolts, it's probably the thermocouple that needs replacement.
This is straightforward troubleshooting for any furnace repairman. If you don't have the tools and parts, you are better off calling someone in.
One reason for that is that the whole funace should be inspected for maintenance needs, from fileter replacement to inspecting the heat exchanger and cleaning burners and checking the chimney for proper operation.
More than likely this can all be done for an hour labor charge or so. Fix only the pilot problem and you may neglect other problems that will cost you more money or be a hazard.
