Draft damper jamming

I have a Burnham 4 section cast iron oil fired boiler. It has a Field Controls Type RC calibrated draft controller. It also has a Field Control power venter model SWG II-4HD. The draft damper is continually bending the stop tab. Any suggestions as to how to correct this. I was also thinking of purchasing the equipment to do my own tune ups. Good idea or bad?

Thanks for your inputs

The problem with doing your own maintenance work is that you may miss out on doing important safety checks. On the other hand, a lot of people don't have any maintenance done at all and most of them survive.

Stop Tab Bending

More than once I've taken a piece of flat stock, bent it to make a 90 "hook", & bolted the other end to the top of the barometric. It takes a bit of trial & error to get the length from the face of the barometric right but it works well. Another option is, once the maximum swing of the damper is determined, you can install a long sheet metal screw or small diameter bolt thru the bottom of the assembly to serve as a stop.
